How not to cure claustrophobia
A CBT therapist came all the way from Sweden to the Carter Caves in Kentucky to cure her claustrophobia, but failed!!!
Even though she brought her three-person support team from Sweden, and also a local friend, that didn’t help.
Full of hope she arrived at the caves, meeting the tremendous cave guide. Light and happy feet took her to the entrance of the cave. She went inside, the gate was closed behind her, she went into the tunnel, and then suddenly a big STOP came up inside her. Her very nice supportive friends tried to make her come inside by telling her sweet things, trying to tempt her, promising to comfort her if she got scared and also yelling at her. What a fuss, she was stuck in the tunnel, people in front, people behind her. She heard a strange sound, like a huge drum and she realized it was her heart beating. She screamed – I must get out and the unbelievable nice and understanding guide opened the cave and let her out. She found a bench, lay down, listening to the rain dripping and fell into a deep and relaxing sleep, forgetting about her failure, until voices woke her up, and her friends came back full of stories from the cave:

….voices faded away, voices went away
….sentences turned to words, turned to letters falling to the ground and beside them she saw a frog, and she turned down, and she kissed it and everything turned light and covered by diamond dust and she realized that what she always has been longing for was there………
